Grants will total $25,000 or $50,000 each.

Native American residents in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota can apply.

Applications will close on April 24 at 5 pm central time.

You must also have registered with the group by April 17 to receive login info.

Final selections will be made in July, and the grant is expected to start August 15.

Last year, the program paid out a total of $7.9 million.

It's currently unclear what this year's total will be.

WHO QUALIFIES?

Native Americans over the age of 18 can apply.

The fund is exclusively for residents of Minnesota and the Dakotas.

However, Native Americans who trace their roots to any indigenous group from the US, Canada, or Mexico qualify.

There are also guidelines for what the money can be used for.

"This work is centered around a redefinition of wealth from our Indigenous perspective," the group's website says.

"Indigenous wealth is a quality of life and mindset that encircles family and community well-being and the care of relationships, and a spirit of generosity," it added.

Applications are considered based in part on a wealth building plan and a resource plan that will outline how applicants plan to use the money.

Plans should align with the group's "Indigenous wealth" definition, it said.

MORE PAYMENTS

Nonprofits and governments across the country have been turning to cash payments as a solution to alleviate poverty.

In California, the state has set up a variety of regionally-targeted guaranteed income programs.

One is operating in the Inland Empire region, aiming to help people who are pregnant or former foster youth.

A private group in Fresno started its own guaranteed income program after the state left the area out of its GI funding scheme.

That group will pay 150 people $500 per month.

Over $1,000 of income is headed to all residents of one state.

Tacoma, Washington has another GI program set up.
