“To anyone reading this — don’t put your family off,” Lil Jon (real name Jonathan H. Smith) wrotevia Instagramon Saturday, May 2. “Don’t say ‘I’ll see them later’ or ‘We can do that later.’ Don’t skip the long hugs dont be frugal. Make long lasting memories when you can. We all think we have time… but we don’t know Allah’s plan.”

Lil Jon, 55, confirmed in a statement toUs Weeklyon February 6 that his son Nathan Smith (a.k.a. DJ Young Slade) was found dead three days after going missing in Georgia. An autopsy revealedthat Nathan died from an accidental drowning in the setting of psilocybin use. (Psilocybin is an alternative name for magic mushrooms, which can elicit hallucinogenic effects due to a psychoactive compound.)

In Saturday’s post, Lil Jon reflected on how much it meant to bond with Nathan during a birthday trip to Japan in 2024.

“Two years ago, I asked Slade what he wanted to do for his birthday. He said, ‘go to Japan,’” he recalled. “I had no idea that trip would become our final father-and-son trip… or his favorite one ever.”

The musician went on, “I gave him options for everything, and he chose it all himself. We did everything — from museums and food tours to Michelin-star sushi spots. We even watched samurai swords being forged… and got to use them.”

The birthday trip included Lil Jon and his son taking an anime drawing class together and gaining some experience in “drift culture.”

“It was expensive, but I didn’t care — I saw how happy it made him. He told me it was the most fun he’d ever had on any trip,” he remembered. “It hits different now, knowing we won’t get to make memories like that again.”

He closed his tribute with some crucial advice for fans, writing, “Love your people hard. You never know when it’s the last hug.”

NEED TO KNOW

  • He began watching the show for his podcast, I Am All In, and says he now understands its fan appeal

  • Patterson praises the show's creators and Lauren Graham's comedic talent, calling the series funny, sweet and unique

Scott Pattersondidn't watchGilmore Girlsuntil over 20 years after the show first premiered.

During a recentinterview with Mike Jerrickon FOX 29's late-night program,MIKE, the 67-year-old actor opened up about his time on the show and why he chose not to watch it while it was airing.

“Because I made the sausage for 14 hours a day, I didn't want to eat it," Patterson explained. "I just was not interested in consuming it after I did it for so long. When you're on a TV series, you barely have time to eat, sleep or take a shower.”

Patterson played a diner owner named Luke, the on-and-off love interest ofLauren Graham's Lorelai Gilmore, in the fictional Stars Hollow.Gilmore Girlsran for seven seasons, from 2000 to 2007.

However, in 2021, theSullivan's Crossingalum launched his podcast,I Am All In with Scott Patterson, in which he watched the series for the first time and shared his commentary and off-camera moments with listeners.

“I called iHeart, made a deal and that was my pitch. I had never seen the episodes. They said ‘Really?' They felt sorry for me, so they gave me a show because they felt bad for me," he told Jerrick.

When he ultimately did watch the show for the podcast, though, he “loved it.”

“I understood what the fans were talking about. It's funny, it's endearing, it's sweet, it's unusual, it's abstract, it's experimental,” Patterson said.

“Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel — they are two very unique creative minds and you know, they're once in a generation people," he added. "They created it, and their unique background, it comes out of their backgrounds and how they grew up, and it's just so rife with comedy."

Patterson compared Graham's character to “a Borscht Belt comedian” who is “going through her life in small town Stars Hollow, and we're all the beneficiaries of that.”

“I was just sort of an anchor for the show, and to be a straight man to her jokes," Patterson said. "But she's delivering 50 jokes an episode and people understand half of them and the other half they look up and have to rewatch and now they know what the joke is."

One of the most enduring things about the show, according to Patterson, is that the audience “sees it from a different point of view now and they relate to other characters as they get older.”

“That's another reason why people continue to rewatch and discover it. They watch it at 16, they relate to certain characters, they watch it at 30, it's a completely different experience for them, they watch it at 50, it's a completely different experience,” Patterson said.

Along with Patterson and Graham,Gilmore Girlsfeatured Alexis Bledel, Jared Padalecki, Milo Ventimiglia, Matt Czuchry, Melissa McCarthy, Kelly Bishop and Edward Herrmann, to name a few.

Colin Jost shares Scarlett Johansson’s reaction to him buying a ferry

Colin Josttalks about Scarlett Johansson’s reaction to his ferry ownership at theSmartlesspodcast. Co-host Sean Hayes asked the comedian, regarding the deal, “You paid, you still have to pay, like, don’t you?” Jost replied, “These are [the] exact questions a financial advisor asks me.”

As reported byEW, he shared how he consulted Davidson regarding the purchase. The “Saturday Night Live” writer said, “texted Pete, which is the wrong person to text with when you have an idea like this. And I was like, ‘Should we buy this?”

However, Davidson replied, “‘F— yeah, we’ve got to do this.” Moreover, Jost texted his father, Daniel A. Jost. “And he literally was like, ‘Did you do your homework?’ Which is such a teacher thing to say. I was like, ‘Dad, I’m just sort of texting you as a formality,” he shared. Soon, Jost broke the news to his wife as he stated, “I already bought the boat. Then I texted Scarlett, like, ‘Guess what? We own a ferry now.’ And she was like, ‘We?”

The father of one also explained how it has been misreported that the ferry is “some sort of crazy money pit. “I joke about it a lot, but it is, we’ve done some events on it where we really have already made back the money we’ve invested and the money we’ve spent on stuff to dock it and all that,” Jost said. Additionally, shared his, Davidson, and their architect co-owner, Rob Castellano’s plan for the ferry.

“I was thinking in a real estate way, if you put it somewhere, it’s 70,000 square feet,” the 43-year-old shared. He continued, “So I was like, ‘If you put that on a dock in Manhattan, you’ve suddenly got basically a building on the waterfront.”
