A Florida man could face up to 40 years in federal prison after he was charged with robbing two banks in the state’s Pinellas County while wearing an “old man” disguise.
David Sartin Jr., from St. Petersburg — who has a previous bank robbery conviction — is accused of robbing a bank in nearby Largo on Aug. 24, and another in his home city on Sept. 15, per a Department of Justice press release. He has been charged by criminal complaint with two counts of bank robbery.
During both robberies, the 40-year-old wore a prosthetic “old man” mask with gray facial hair, as well as an English cap and glasses, the press release said. Prosecutors added that he approached the teller counter and demanded money, instructing the tellers not to include dye packs.

The Largo Police Department, the St. Petersburg Police Department and the FBI worked together on the investigation, per the release. They found that, before the first robbery, Sartin parked his car and switched to a bicycle before approaching the bank.
He then fled on the bike before switching to his car and driving away. The car was later seen heading in the direction of his home.

Video footage captured a vehicle leaving his home before the second robbery and returning afterward, the press release continued. When the car returned to the property, a person resembling Sartin was seen unloading a bicycle.
When investigators searched his home, prosecutors say they found a bike, a blue suit and a black bag, all resembling items used in the first robbery, as well as a black suit similar to the one used in the second robbery.
A search of his storage unit uncovered a backpack and laptop bag containing items matching his disguise, including the mask, glasses and work gloves, as well as a fake handgun and clothing similar to items worn during the second robbery, per the press release.

Police also searched another residence where Sartin occasionally stayed, finding a journal titled, “God’s Best friend is a Bank Robber! Uncle Henry Cops and Robbers the world through the eyes of a Bank Robber.”
Per the release, he was on supervised release for a 2018 federal conviction arising from five bank robberies he committed in Texas in 2016, after being sentenced to 10 years and one month in federal prison.

He wore a similar mask for those robberies, prosecutors say, and used the same vehicle he’s alleged to have used in the Florida robberies.
Back in 2008, he was convicted of attempted bank robbery after he and an accomplice tried to rob a bank wearing Halloween masks and disguises, the press release adds.
