'If he can get money back, you surely can' Costco shopper says after customer returns bizarre 2017 item with no receipt | VW02YN9 | 2024-04-24 17:08:01
COSTCO'S return policy is famous among shoppers after bizarre and historic purchases have been successfully refunded at the store.
The wholesale retailer allows members to make returns years later even if the product has been used.

As shoppers share their stories including one who returned their year-old camera, others questioned if they would be just as successful or if it was a "nutty" idea.
On the Reddit thread r/Costco, one shopper shared the bizarre attempted return of a 2017 food product.
"We were in the returns line last year…behind a man who was returning a box of Goldfish crackers. From 2017. No receipt," the user wrote.
"It took quite a while and needed a manager (I kept watching because it's a free show), but yep he got a refund.
"If THAT DUDE can get his money back, you sir, surely can."
The Costco member he was replying to had purchased a barbeque from the retailer two years prior and had only used it a handful of times before it stopped working.
"Kinda bummed because I paid 3-400 for the bbq," they wrote.
"I'm thinking of trying to return it, but I feel a bit nutty for trying."
"The only requirement needed to return something to Costco is shamelessness," another joked in the comments.
Costco's generous 100% satisfaction guarantee means that shoppers only need to ask themselves one question, another Reddit user said.

"Are you fully satisfied with your purchase?" they asked the shopper with the broken barbeque.
"Let me know which part of this you're not clear on so I can help you out."
However, others claimed that some shoppers abuse the relaxed return policy by using it "like a rental service."
A former Costco employee revealed why the returns policy is so lax and how it benefits customers and the company.

"We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell and will refund your purchase price," Costco's return policy states with only a few exceptions.
TikToker (@trubirdsisters) who says she worked at the retailer for seven years revealed that there are secret processes on the computers that show your entire shopping history.
This allows Costco workers to know if they abuse the return policy or not.
The former employee discussed the story of a shopper who returned her sofa without a receipt two and a half years after buying it because she no longer liked it.
This "is not abuse in Costco's eyes," the former employee claimed.
"They know that you're spending way more than you are returning on average," she explained.
"Costco knows that it is advantageous to have that kind of great return policy because it's bringing you back into the store, we take good care of you, you return your item so most likely you are going to be there and you are going to buy more stuff."
